Happy Halloween everyone! This week went by in a blur of candy and colorful costumes! On Wednesday, the school hosted is annual SPOOKTACULAR carnival. It’s a great fundraiser for the classes. I did a cake walk with one of the other teachers, and I make about $100 for my class and had lots of fun! I’m planning on using the money on prize box prizes, and supplies for an end of the year pizza and piñata party. :) During school Wednesday, the elementary kids wore their costumes to school and paraded around the gym for the high school kids at the end of the day. Thursday was an early release day. We had an elementary awards assembly and classroom Halloween party that afternoon, and the rest of the afternoon I spent doing parent-teacher conferences. The kids didn’t have school on Friday, and the teachers spent the morning doing professional development, and the afternoon finishing up parent-teacher conferences. I had 7 out of 11 parents show up, which was a much better turn out than I expected, but the parents that didn’t show up have kids that are struggling, but it is what it is.
This weekend, I was supposed to go to another wrestling tournament, but Collin didn’t take any girls with him this time, so I stayed home. This morning I had to call the maintenance director because our water heater wasn’t working. It turns out it just needs a new filter. In the lower 48 that would just mean a quick trip to the hardware store, but out here it’s a different story. The part has to be ordered and even though it will be sent priority mail, that doesn’t necessarily mean the filter will get here anytime soon, so for now, Collin and I will be showering at the school. I used hot water from the kettle we have to wash dishes, so that will work for a while, I suppose. After the water heater problem got sorted out, I made a trip to the post office hoping the package with the Halloween candy that we ordered (that was supposed to be here on the 28th) arrived, but I had no such luck. The stores didn’t have any either, so I stopped by the school and took some candy from my prize box to hand out.
Halloween is a huge deal here and everyone from toddlers to Elders will be at your door collecting candy. I saw groups of kids out trick or treating at one in the afternoon, which was much earlier than I was expecting them to begin. I will spend the rest of the evening handing out candy, baking bread, and relaxing. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!
